Tilly has extensive experience of working as a storyteller and drama workshop facilitator in both primary and secondary school settings and is able to deliver a wide range of creative activities to suit the needs of your school. And if that sounds like far too much of a wide brief, here are some examples:
• One off storytelling performances (on a theme chosen by the school, if desired)
• ‘Exploring stories through drama’ workshops
• Storytelling performance and workshop activities to compliment specific areas of the curriculum e.g. History, Geography, Citizenship, Literacy
• Storytelling workshops – creating and telling
• Issue-based drama and story activities e.g. bullying, peer pressure, healthy lifestyle choices, environmental awareness
• ‘Shakespeare by Stealth’ – Exploration of theme and language which aims to lessen the ‘groan factor’ that can be induced by mention of the bard’s name!
• Full day, half day or longer term residencies
Some examples of previous school work to date include:
• The Compass Project - Storytelling residency work in primary schools for the Somerset Partnership Arts in Education Agency. (Click here to see a report from this project).
• Creative Partnership with East Bridgwater School – Exploration of the use of drama techniques for making Shakespeare more accessible at key stage 3. (Click here to see a report from this project).
• Confessions of a Big Bad Wolf – Performance and workshop tour with Blue Moon Theatre Company
• Education Achievement Zone Projects – Working in collaboration with a number of artists to create work incorporating a variety of different art forms.
• Primary School Story Days – Numerous visits to schools to deliver whole school storytelling performances with accompanying drama workshops.
‘Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the morning, adults and children alike. Your ability to appeal to such a wide age range tells its own story.’
Pauline Phelps, Thurlbear VA Primary School
‘The visit was a TOTAL SUCCESS!! The children were enthusiastic and inspired. The structure of the day was excellent. Thank-you for a wonderful experience.’
Pam Scott, Oake & Bradford CP School
‘It was very, very, very cool!’
Story telling is the most ancient form of education. It is about the remembering, making, and sharing of images that bind together time, and a people. Stories, like the sacred plants, are medicine and food come from the Earth.
Joan Halifax, The Fruitful Darkness
