Created in collaboration with visual artist Roberta Wood, The Word Wise Web is a cross-artform project incorporating elements of literature, visual installation and participation which aims to explore and express the profound way in which the many forms of the word provide a timeless environment in which we can experience and share the numerous and complex facets of being human.
Extracts of poetry and prose are attached to a web structure, which is formed from recycled scrap material. Members of the public are invited to add their own words to the web and are given extracts of poetry and prose on slips of paper to take away with them. The web was spun by Mary Mardle, a character (played by Tilly) who lives in the world between worlds, a place woven from the word threads of stories and poetry. Mary is on hand throughout the duration of the installation to share stories and encourage people to add their words to the web.
Both the installation and the Wandering Web are available and suitable for all sorts of events, happenings and venues e.g. festivals, parties, literature events, mind, body and soul fairs, outdoor events, libraries, galleries. The nature and emphasis of the words on the web are focused to suit each individual event.
Please get in touch if you think you may be interested in the Word Wize Web making an appearance at your event.
"If it hadn't been for the web, I think I may have continued falling forever."
Mary Mardle
